I thought mostly about the younger days of Tupac and the passion he had for all forms of art. I also thought about the phrase "heart of gold" when painting the heart yellow, I thought the phrase was most fitting for describing Tupac.

I connect with this poem a lot especially being an artist based in Oakland CA, the birthplace of the Black Panther Party. The piece is inspired by the resilience, passion, ambition and faith that our communities have through hardships that are put upon us in today’s society.

This piece, inspired by Tupac Shakur’s Starry Night poem, was fueled by the appreciation of beauty. I was moved by the way one influential artist recognized the brilliance of another who wasn’t fully appreciated in his lifetime. By merging Tupac’s portrait with the visual language of Starry Night, I wanted to highlight that lineage of influence and how art transcends time and still resonates deeply across generations.
